California dairy families expand social media challenge to support neighbors in need
Fuel Up to Play 60 ‘Hometown Grant’ supports student access to nutritious foods, physical activity resources for healthy schools and communities
Tracy, Calif. (Sept. 28, 2017) – Milk is one of the most-requested staples at food banks, but among the least donated. On average, people served by food banks receive the equivalent of less than 1 gallon per person per year. To help fill this gap and support families in need in areas affected by hurricanes Harvey and Irma, California dairy farm families today launched the Seals for Good social media challenge, which will provide up to 4,000 gallons of milk to families and children struggling with hunger.
Tracy, Calif. – September 21, 2017 – While one truck arrived at the Treasure Coast Food Bank in Fort Pierce, Florida, the second of two food relief trucks departed from Irwindale, California Tuesday headed for Houston, completing a commitment from the California dairy community to support families in need who were affected by recent hurricanes in Texas and Florida.

A recent survey commissioned by the Real California Milk found a majority (71%) of Americans have a positive sentiment about the delicious dairy product. However, despite its popularity, most Americans were unable to correctly identify the origins of cottage cheese from a list of six presented options.

TRACY, Calif. – July 6, 2017 – California cow’s milk processors that use the Real California Cheese and Milk seals brought home 68 awards from the 2017 annual cheese competition held by California State Fair, in Sacramento. Cheesemaker – Pt. Reyes Farmstead Cheese was nominated as Best of Show Cow’s Milk Cheese and Best of California Cow’s Milk Cheese during the annual event. Two cheesemakers – Bellwether Farms, LLC and Fiscalini Cheese Co., were nominated as Best of California Cow’s Milk Cheese.

Brown Jr. proclaimed June as “Real California Milk Month,” paying homage to more than 1,300 dairy families who make California the number one milk-producing state and dairy the state’s number one agricultural commodity. This regional distinction is in addition to the annual National Dairy Month celebration that recognizes the range of dairy products and the farmers who produce the milk that helps feed the nation and, increasingly, the world.
Tracy, Calif. – April 3, 2017 – Today, Madera Unified School District received a $44,000 grant from GENYOUth through Fuel Up to Play 60 en español, an evolution of its national flagship program that encourages communities nationwide to live healthier lifestyles through good nutrition and physical activity. The funding will support the implementation of Fuel Up to Play 60 healthy eating and physical activity initiatives at 11 district schools.
