- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 6 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 egg
- 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Pinch of ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon each dark rum and brandy, optional
- Preheat oven to 300° F.
Cream is the milkfat-enriched layer that rises to the surface of unhomogenized, whole milk after standing. To be called cream, a product must contain at least 18 percent milkfat.
